Finally….

It has only taken my a year and a half, but I finally have the last block in my applique quilt done (12 blocks in all). I put the finally stitches in it last night while watching the Olympics. I wonder how long it will take me to get the blocks together and the border put on?

Beginning Quilting

This is the new quilt for my beginning quilting class at The Little General.
I will be teaching a beginning quilt class at the shop on Thursday mornings in September.
September 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 10 am -12 pm.
Students will learn to make this 9-patch top, a pieced back and binding.
All you need for this quilt are 9 fat quarters, 1 1/2 yards for the solid blocks, 1 3/4 yards for the backing and 1/3 yard for the binding. You can call the shop at 336-779-6155 or email me if you would like to sign-up!

Sunday Sewing

I finished sewing the binding down, popped this quilt in the wash, pulled it out of the dryer (my favorite part) and booked the models. This handsome model is my husband’s sweet little bull. He graciously posed beside the quilt.
The ladies stood back and looked at me like, “What the heck is this crazy woman doing?!?”
The cute little babies were just as puzzled.
I made this quilt using a great pattern called “Meadow Blocks”. If you are looking for a quilt that can be made in a day- this is it! Super quick and super easy. It’s made with 16 fat quarters and 4 yards for the backing. Cut.Sew.Done. That easy!
It is made with Jennifer Paganelli’s Crazy Love fabric. I quilted it with a panto called “Maidenhair.”
I am putting it at The Little General. She has all these beautiful fabrics and the pattern at the shop.

Stars and Stripes Forever

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. I know we sure did!
This is Laura’s quilt. It is gorgeous! It measures about 60″ X 60″. The border fabric has little swirls in it, so I mimicked that with a nice swirl pantograph called “Waterworld”.
Laura is going to be teaching a class on how to make this beautiful quilt in the fall at Knit One, Smock Too. I know that I would love to learn how to make this!

When Something Old Becomes New

This is Ellen’s quilt. It is one of the quilts I got done this week.
There is an interesting story behind this quilt. The grandmother of Ellen’s God-daughter found these fabrics along with a sketch of how the quilt blocks where to look under her mother’s bed. She gave the sketch and the fabric to Ellen.
Following the sketch and adding a few fabrics to it, Ellen completed the quilt. She is going to give it to her God-daughter. Now her God-daughter is going to have something started many years ago by her great-grandmother. I love the history of this quilt and I love it when something old becomes new again. This is a really special quilt.

Urban Chained

This has been a quilty week. I didn’t get any quilting done last week because my nephews were here for summer camp. I ran around taking Fletcher and his cousin to horse camp and entertaining them. (I’ll share pictures of camp soon.)
So this week… I played catch up. I have gotten six quilts done this week including squeezing in my own quilt. I did a straight line, spiky kind of meander on it. I thought it would be a good contrast with the curves.
I put the quilt at The Little General. She has all of these great fabrics there.
I have pictures of some of the quilts I did this week and I will post those soon.

Sunday Sewing

I am trying to set aside a little time each Sunday to do a little sewing for myself.
This is the Urban Chained Pattern from Sew Kind of Wonderful. It is made using her Quick Curve Ruler. You can find both the pattern and the ruler on her website.
It took a little trial and error and a trip back to the fabric store to get more fat quarters, but I finally figured it out. I can’t wait to get it quilted, but that may have to wait. Thankfully, I have a bunch of customer quilts to get done. I also bought her Urban Candy pattern. I already have the fabric picked out, so that may be my next Sunday Sewing Project. I am thinking that this would be a great class, so stay tuned. I might teach this in the fall at The Little General if there is enough interest. That way, you all can benefit from all the mistakes I made. Then you won’t have to buy extra fabric like I did!

Week 5, Block 5

Week five and I finished block five…right on schedule. Only 4 more blocks to go. Now it’s time to pull myself way from sewing and enjoy some football. I got the Lark Quilt quilted this weekend and the binding put on, so maybe I will sit and sew it down while I watch the game.

Decisions, Decisions

Last week I went to a local vendor quilt show and I was a pretty good girl. The only thing I purchased was this pattern. It’s pretty neat. The inner star is sewn into the seam of the larger star.
It came with these templates. I like the way it turned out, but I trying to decide if I should make it with the inner star or not. What do you think? Inner star – yes or no? The blocks are 11 1/2″ and the quilt has 25 stars. I am using some old Amy Bulter fabric swatch samples to make it. I might try to tackle this with the one block a week method, like I’m doing with the Swoon quilt. That seems to be a more attainable goal.

Hopping To It

Block #8
I have been busy trying to catch up on my Hop To It quilt.
Block #7
There are 12 blocks in all and I am currently working on # 9.
