Got To Be Starting Something…

(My little nod to MJ.) So, I couldn’t decide what to make next and instead of finishing what I have already started or possibly using fabric out of my stash, I, of course, went and got new fabric to start a new project. I have no control. I am really excited about this one and I have big plans for this quilt. I almost have it pieced and when I do, I am going to give you all the low down on it. Can’t wait. Check back tomorrow.

The Pinwheel Quilt is Done!

I got the last stitch put on the binding last night and I got it all washed and dried before I went to bed. I am so please with how this quilt turned out. I used Heather Bailey’s Freshcut fabrics and the pattern, Tessellation from Sandy Klop’s Quilts for All Seasons book. The book is very good. Her patterns are easy to follow and it has several good quilts in it. I have an American Jane Recess jelly roll and I think I am going to make my next quilt using that. I made one out of her Wee Play jelly roll and it is my favorite. I just need to decide which kind of quilt to make. Decisions, decisions. What I really should do is work on my spiderweb quilt and get some blocks done on that before I start another quilt. And work on the Dresden quilt before I start another one. It is just so fun to start a quilt. My friend is making this quilt and I want to make it too. (Focus Gina, Focus.) It is amazing to me that I get any quilts done at all. Everyone around me continually inspires me with their quilts and I want to make them ALL. I hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys a little sewing time.

Baxter Quilt Top

Well, I got the quilt top for my baby niece done. I finished putting the borders on last night. I am so pleased with how it turned out. I love the Heather Ross fabrics and piecing on my featherweight was so nice. For a old machine, it worked great. I almost hate to give the quilt away. Lucky for me that I have enough fabric left over to make a second one just like it. Now I can have one to give away and one to keep. I think next I’ll try to get some blocks done on the pinwheel quilt I started and haven’t worked on in months. I am trying to stay focused on getting UFO”s done. ( I do have a hard time staying focused, though.) Off to get me hair cut now. Might go short…we’ll see.

Ahhhh, quilting!

Yeah, I got to quilt some this evening. I worked on the quilt for my soon-to-be-here niece. I am thrilled about this quilt for several reasons. First, I am actually getting to use my new featherweight for the first time to piece it. Also, I am using the most fabulous Heather Ross fabric. It is super sweet and super soft. My sister-in-law has a Boston Terrier named Baxter and when I saw this fabric I knew it was perfect. There are little Baxter’s all over it. I am keeping it simple and just putting 4″ blocks of 12 different fabrics together. To make my life even easier, I’m just going to strip piece it together using three fabrics and then sub-cut them and put it together like a nine patch. She is using black and white gingham in the nursery, so I am thinking about adding that into a border. Not completely set on that yet, though. I think it is hard to find good gingham. This quilt should come together quickly…(as George Costanza would say, “seemingly”.) Can’t wait to get it done so I can show it to you.

Busy Bee

Don’t you just love summer colors! I have been a busy bee this week. Buzzing around all of these beautiful floral fabrics. I can’t wait to get some more made.

My New Job

Okay, so a few weeks ago I went to check out the new fabric shop in town. I think you might remember me posting about it. It is called Karen Gray Design and is located Reynolda Village. She also has a fabric boutique on etsy called fabricpalooza. The store is fabulous and the fabrics are fabulous! I told my husband that if I had died and gone to heaven, that is what I would envision it looking like. Well, I now work there. Yes, I am actually working in my own personal heaven. How cool is that. Today was my first day. It went great and I am so excited. I don’t even know if I should really be calling it a “job”. I mean, come on, who are we kidding. So… if you are in the area or even if you are not, come by and see me at the shop. I would be thrilled if you did!

New Fabric

This is the purse I made my mother for Mother’s Day with some fabric I just got. I love this fabric, don’t you?

Okay, so the window treatments are done. I didn’t exactly get them finished by end of day Sunday as planned. I spent the whole day in bed yesterday trying to get over a nasty cold. I did get them done this morning. Better late than never, right! I am so glad they are done. I feels great not to have any pending window treatment projects. I have been grateful for the work and extra money, but I have been needing a break from window treatments. There is so much other stuff I have on my list to sew!

For all of the machine quilter’s out there, I need your help. What kind of thread should I be using to quilt on my domestic machine? I have been using Gutterman’s, but I have a feeling that it is not the best thing to use. I also tried YLI machine quilting thread, but that was a total disaster. TOTAL DISASTER! Any suggestion on what to use?

Where to Begin

Hello Everyone. There has been so much going on in my little world this past week that I have not had time to blog. I finished this little baby quilt for my sister. I got the pattern from Crazy Mom Quilts’ blog. It is the stacked coin quilt she did for the Moda Bake Shop.

I also made this cute-as-can be fabric necklace. It was super easy to make and I love the way it turned out. I found the tutorial here at Sew, Mama, Sew! I will definitely have to make some more of these. Let’s see, what else… I got these beautiful fat quarters in the mail this week. I keep saying that I am NOT going to buy anything else until I get what I have already bought used up. You can obviously see how well I have stuck to that pledge. The worst part is that this is not all of it. I’m not scared, I’ll say it… My name is Gina and yes, I’m a fabriholic.

I have really been trying hard to get all of the window treatments I have to make for customers done THIS week. I have two more to complete and I am determined to get them done by the end of day Sunday. We shall see….

And Carolyn, I’ll bring the fabric you won to the next guild meeting, if that is okay with you.

New Purses

Okay, today I have been in my sewing workroom since 8:30 am. I have been sewing purses all day. To say that my back hurts is a huge understatement. It has been a very productive day. I have gotten several purses made and I even came up with a new pattern. Please bear in mind that this is my first real attempt at drafting a pattern. These two purses are what I came up with. The one above is the first attempt at it and the one below is the second. What do you think? They are basically the same, only I pleated them differently and the second one is a little more tapered at the top. (I’m not real crazy about my fabric selection on the second.) Which do you like best?
