Love, Baby Girls and Super Boys

Love, as in Amy Butler’s new fabric line. I picked some up at Karen Gray Design and I’m ready to get started making something with it.
I got it all cut out.

And now all of my 2.5″ strips are sitting there, waiting for me to make them into something.
Super boys, as in my super boy! He has really done so good this week sleeping in his bed all by himself. The first couple of days were rough, but he is doing great now. He gets to go to a friend’s birthday party on Sunday. I never know what to get kids, even though I have one. I stand in the aisle at the toy store and just stare. I decided that I was just going to make something, so I made his friend a superhero cape using this pattern and a matching t-shirt.
As a bonus, Fletcher got one too.

And these are my baby girls, Remmy and Skeet. Such cuties!

Happy New Year

Taking a little break, be back in 2010. Happy New Year, everyone!

Snowday = Sewday!

It might be snowy outside, but inside it is all sewing! I have been so covered up making things for others that it feels like it has been ages since I quilted. But this weekend, it was like all the stars aligned and created a perfect storm for sewing. It snowed and I was stuck in the house, I finished up all my sewing for customers, and I have this beautiful fabric waiting to be made into something. Perfect.
I also finally got the last Christmas stocking made. I finished it up last night and not a moment too soon. My parents are going to deliver it to my niece today. This will make the 18th Christmas stocking I’ve completed for my family. My aunt made stockings for the whole family when I was little. Over the years it has become harder for her to keep up with all the additions to the family, so I learned to knit specifically to carry on the tradition for our family. With every marriage and birth, there comes a stocking. It is sometimes difficult to get motivated to keep making them, but my mom doesn’t ask for much and I know how important this tradition is to her, so I’m glad to carry it on. I also know that hanging my son’s, husband’s and my stocking is one of my favorite things at Christmas and hopefully it is for the family I’ve made them for.

Merry and Bright

So here it is….the finished Merry and Bright Christmas Quilt. Luckily it hasn’t started raining yet, so the hubbers was kind enough to hold it up for me. I mentioned that I had a lot to do on my list today, but so far I have been sucked into watching cheesy Christmas movies on ABC Family. From now until Christmas, ABC Family and the Hallmark Channel will be showing every cheese ball Christmas movie ever made and I find it very difficult to look away. I mean seriously, how could I with titles like Holiday in Handcuffs (get your mind out of the gutter people, it’s on the family channel for goodness sake) staring Mario Lopez and Melissa Joan Hart. Seriously!

But, before I got sucked into all the television drama and my butt formed a nice hinney print in the sofa, I did make some Chocolate Chip Cookies with my great little assistant, Fletcher.

He quietly waited and watched as the cookies baked.

And before I even got them out of the oven, his daddy had two glasses of milk waiting. These two turkeys never even let the cookies cool. We made them for my grandmother’s birthday. She loves them and what else do you get a lady that doesn’t want anything. Hopefully, there will be some left to give her.

Nice Weekend

What a relaxing weekend. We headed up to the Virginia mountains and it was just beautiful. The weather was gorgeous and I spent most of the day Saturday sitting in the rocking chair on the front porch. I enjoyed the weather, the mountain views and reading my book. Oh, and a cup of White Chocolate Hot Chocolate, my favorite. I brought my knitting to work on, but it never made it out of the bag. I got so caught up in Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol that I didn’t do much else. Such a page-turner. I didn’t want to put it down.
Hubby had a good weekend, too. He “bagged a buck”. It’s not the illusive “monsterbuck.com”, but he was thrilled, none the less. Hunting is not my thing, but it’s his and I happy for him. We are home now and I’m ready for another week full of sewing. As always, I have a lot to do and my goal is to get as much as I can done before December gets here. Then I can concentrate on spending as much of the Holiday as I can with my family and not in the “sweat shop”.

What up?

Well, my posts seem to be few and far between here lately. So much has been going on and at the same time nothing much. After market was over I was a little burned out and then everybody around here got sick. Everybody is better now, but to tell you the truth, I have really not felt much like sewing lately. I just can’t seem to get motivated to head to the basement and turn on the sewing machine. It is not for lack of things to sew. Believe me, I have plenty to get done, I just don’t feel like doing it. I would rather be with this cute little fireman. This was the first year I didn’t make his costume. I felt bad about it, but he didn’t mind one bit.
Anthony helped carve the Jack O’lantern. Fletcher was supervisor. He inspected his daddy’s work very closely and we all agreed he did a good job.

I did briefly bring the sewing machine upstairs to work on the quilt for my disappearing 9-patch class. I am so excited about this class, because the ladies in the class are so excited. They are doing a great job on there quilts and they are inspiring.

I have been trying to keep this house clean. I will never understand how one man and one little boy can create so much laundry. Seriously!?! I feel like all I do is laundry. Did I mention how much I hate to fold laundry. It’s out of control.

We went to the mountains over the weekend and I did manage to get quite a bit done on the niece’s Christmas stocking. It is amazing what you can get done when you have no cell phone, no television and no computer. I have this stocking to finish and one more to make for my other niece before Christmas.
This weekend I am going on a quilt retreat to Black Mountain, NC which I am excited about. I had so much fun last time I went. I just need to decide what to take to work on. We’ll see.
Now I am headed to pick Fletcher up from preschool and see if there is any hope into bribing him into getting a haircut. He hates haircuts, so it’s a struggle. Wish me luck.

Need Cheering Up?

If you are having a bad day and need a little cheering up, I suggest you head over to a 3 year old’s soccer practice. It will instantly change your mood. Yesterday was Fletcher’s first soccer practice. He had the best time and watching sixteen 3 year olds play soccer was so enjoyable. My husband and I could not stop laughing. It was pure comedy. GO! Kiddie Kickers!

OMG!!! Have You Ever Seen Anything So Cute!

This is my new little niece and can I just say that this is the cutest thing I have ever seen. My sister-in-law had pictures taken by Eric Jones in Greenville, NC and I have never seen anything better. He does great work and I am very impressed. It makes me want to take Fletcher and head on over the Greenville to get his portrait made. Could you not just eat this up!!! How sweet does she look, sleeping with that little grin on her face.

Happy Fourth!

I hope everyone had a Happy Fourth of July! Our family enjoyed the nice weather, a parade, good food, swimming in the pool, cake and of course… FIREWORKS!

We Tweet!

Tweetsie Railroad that is! Yesterday my mom, husband and I took Fletcher and my two nephews to Tweetsie. We had a great time, the weather was perfect, no crowds and the boys were very well behaved. Today we head to the movies to see Ice Age with the boys. It has been a busy week and we have a lot of Fourth festivities planned, including a parade with decorated bikes, lots of food and some fireworks. I haven’t had a lot of time to post because of all the activities, but I’ll catch back up after the holiday. I have been trying to get the Pinwheel quilt completely pieced and it is getting there. Hopefully, I’ll have something to show you on Monday. Until then… I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July.
